The International Colloquium

Dear colleagues,

We would like to invite You to the International Colloquium entitled MUSEUMS & GALLERIES OF THE 21ST CENTURY TOGETHER AGAINST THE THREATS OF CLIMATE CRISIS which will take place from 26th to 27th June 2024 in the Slovak Mining Museum in Banská Štiavnica.

Museums and Galleries of the 21st c. are facing a challenge of engaging in a transformation toward complex polyphonic public platforms where discussions about past and future take place. The colloquium will be an activity through which the Slovak Mining Museum intends to join the museums and galleries of central and eastern Europe, in cooperation with our Norwegian partner, in a discussion about the issues of global climate change mitigation and adaptation. The participants will share their experience in implementing ecologically sustainable measures in their institutions, present (un)successful exhibition projects, and discuss the role of museum and gallery people as educationists. At the colloquium, examples of good practice in building communities that focus on climate change impacts mitigation will be presented. Also, inspirational examples of ecology-focused research taken in environments burdened by mining activities as well as possibilities for such area’s transformation will be discussed. The colloquium should also provide space for presenting examples of how art-related activities and exhibitions can help increase public awareness about climate change impacts.
