In the photo archive of museum, several areas of mining work are recorded in detail from individual professional mining activities. One of them is mining surveying, which is aimed at identifying and targeting mining works underground and on the surface. It evaluates the measurements and then graphically processes them, especially in the outputs - mining maps. The scientific foundations of mining surveying in Slovakia were laid by Samuel Mikovíni and other professors and educators working at Mining and Forestry Academy in Banská Štiavnica. The collection fund of museum also contains a rich collection of surveying instruments and tools, such as: astrolabes, compasses, protractors, theodolites, tachymeters, altimeter devices and tools, devices and tools for measuring lengths, tripods, signal devices, levelling rods, stake outs tools, devices for graphic preparation of maps and sketches in the field, tools for levelling and marking, drawing and calculation tools and others.
