Montane archeology

The archaeological locality Old town or Glanzenberg (Sparkling mountain, Mine) covers an area of approx. 5 ha and is situated above the town. In the field, you can see the ground rampart and crumbling walls, which in the past ensured the military protection of the area. In the Middle Ages, the royal manager of the mines resided here, at the same time, smaller buildings for mining and metallurgical operations (the house of the quality tester of mined ore) and also a castle chapel were built there. Archaeological research of the locality began in 1956 under the leadership of Dr. Belo Poll. From 1981 to the present, the research is conducted by PhDr. Jozef Labuda, CSc.
