08.10.2025 The Slovak Mining Museum calls for a reconsideration of the area consolidation

The Slovak Mining Museum today addressed a letter to the Minister of the Environment of the Slovak Republic with a request to reconsider the blanket request to reduce the number of employees at the museum.

In the letter, we point out that the application of such a measure would have serious consequences for the protection and presentation of cultural heritage and would be in conflict with the obligations of the Slovak Republic to UNESCO and with the goals of the state cultural policy.

The museum is a key institution that in Banská Štiavnica – a UNESCO World Heritage city – ensures professional care for historical, technical and mining monuments, scientific work and educational activities.

In this regard, we also negotiated with the mayor of Banská Štiavnica, who is not indifferent to the situation of the museum and expressed her willingness to support steps aimed at preserving its full functioning.

We publish in full:
📎 Stanovisko k plánovanej konsolidácii v Slovenskom banskom múzeu
📎 Rozpor s medzinárodnými záväzkami Slovenskej republiky voči UNESCO a štátnej kultúrnej politike

We believe that the Ministry of the Environment of the Slovak Republic will pay due attention to this situation and will make a decision that will allow the museum to continue to fulfill its mission in favor of protecting our common cultural heritage.
