Friday 24. 9. 2021 – Ballad of the Earth

The “Ballad of the Earth” concert was held in the exhibition “Sands of the Microworld”, a few days before it was uninstalled.

Performers: Ľubomír Gašpar (cimbalom), Júlia Kozáková (vocals)

The purpose of the concert, during which contemporary music as well as ballad songs were heard, was to touch the features of humanity in people and to speak to the Planet Earth through music.

Through this concert, the Slovak Mining Museum also joined the global climate strike on this day. Museums were called on strike by the Museums for Future (MFF) association, of which the Slovak Mining Museum is a member.

Júlia Kozáková
A charismatic Slovak world music and jazz singer who, thanks to several years of collaboration with Ida Kelarová and the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, as a member of the Čhavorenge Choir, has developed a strong relationship with the Roma culture from which she draws musically. She studied jazz specialization with F. Báleš at the Church Conservatory in Bratislava and is currently studying music at the SOAS University of London. She founded the Velvet Case band, with which she has performed at several Slovak jazz festivals (BJD, MJF, HJD), and the O Gadže Bašaven band, which is dedicated to interpretation of Roma traditional and contemporary music. One of the most recent is the ACALARI ensemble, where musicians creatively work with traditional songs from different countries. Also, Júlia is currently working on her debut CD called Manuša.

Ľubomír Gašpar
A leading Slovak artist who has been developing his own unique musical concept. He studied at the Conservatory in Banská Bystrica and at the Jan Albrecht Music and Art Academy in Banská Štiavnica. His debut album “The Point of View” won the Radio Head Awards – the best album of 2017. The title of the album suggests Ľubomír’s unique view of the instrument he plays, the cimbalom. In his playing, Ľubomír uses a wide range of sound colours that this instrument offers, joining them with musical elements that are not typical for cimbalom. As a musical basis for most of his compositions, he uses folklore of different nations, which he combines with elements of jazz, classical music and other genres. Ľubomír has been a leading person of a number of music projects through which he has performed both at home and abroad. He also frequently plays as a guest in folk, jazz and world music ensembles. Ľubomír Gašpar is a prominent artist who has already created his own artistic “footprint” in the world of music.
